"A dual-mode muffler augmented by a synthesized soundtrack helps the petite six wail."

Seriously, I cant see how this could possibly be necessary. The 135i, 335i, etc... all sound great in my opinion, so taking a similar engine and throwing a less restrictive exhaust on it should be more than enough to allow some sound into the cabin.

BMW, we need to have a serious talk.
Why the fuck are you piping in fake noise?
Why not use a sound pipe that brings in engine bay sound? The ST and Mustang do this and it works well. NATURAL sound.
You also know who makes a nasty sounding turbo 6 engine? Maserati. Go listen to the twin turbo V6. That thing snarls and barks and crackles. It sounds proper, without bullshit witchcraft.
Fuck you BMW, that is just lazy. Pathetic. Useless. This is useless tech for the sake of useless tech.
Bite me.

It's a fucking M3 for crying out loud!
Just eliminate the needlessly complicated dual mode exhaust replace it with a regular ass sports exhaust and eliminate just a little bit of the sound deadening.

I get dual mode, I don't always want a loud exhaust (can't believe I'm saying that) but piping in fake sounds?
Fuck that noise. Literally. Its 0s and 1s. Thats not what the engine should rely on

Re: The driveshaft. Pretty neat-o that they're using carbon fiber there, as is the crash protection built into it.
However, the part about it reaching "critical speed" - Isn't that irrelevant to the transmission gearing? According to my math, the engine is connected directly to the transmission, and then the driveshaft connects the transmission to the rear diff.
So, the gear ratio in the rear diff and vehicle top speed defines the "critical speed" - right?

I know I'm not the target market for a new M3, but it would be the easiest, simplest, and lightest solution to remove the dual mode. Or just have cut outs like the Boss 302.

Yea but the German mantra is "overcomplicate then call it engineering to perfection"
German engineering is largely a joke. Its just overkill for no obvious reason.

I'm well aware, this is what my E36's dual mode muffler looks like on the inside:
Damn thing weighs over 50 lbs!!!!
Come spring I'm going to cut the sum'bitch out and replace it with 2 glass packs.
